I personally grew up around people that smoked constantly around me and I never thought that smoking could be so deadly until I had a friends father die due to Emphysema and smoking. It was very disturbing experience to see someone suffering knowing that they could have made a difference in their family members life to help him quit smoking years ago. So that it would give them a better chance to live a longer life. I would like to give you encouragement and knowledge of what this evil chemical can do to you if you don’t quit the habit now! The decision is up to YOU and it will help you realize just how important your health means to you. So, make the right decision and quit smoking today!

What is Nicotine?

Nicotine comes from the tobacco plant also known as ”Nicotiana Tabacum. “ Nicotine is a natural liquid alkaloid. An alkaloid is an organic compound made out of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen. Nicotine makes up about 0.3-5% of the tobacco plant by dry weight.

The Effects of Nicotine

Nicotine is a potent nerve poison and is included in many insecticides. Nicotine is also found in lower dosages such as tomatoes, potatoes, green peppers and eggplants. Studies have suggested that low doses have a stimulant effect, while higher doses have a depressant effect. As a stimulant to the body it increases your activity, alertness, memory, heart rate, blood pressure and suppresses your appetite. Consuming large dosages of Nicotine may cause vomiting and nausea. It is poisonous to animals and humans.

Physical withdrawal symptoms include irritability, headaches, anxiety and sleep disorders. The effects of smoking can last up to 72 hours in the bloodstream and begins to taper off out of the bloodstream between 2-6 weeks. Cigarettes contain 8 to 20 milligrams of nicotine but your body absorbs only 1 mg or less. The most used way that nicotine is absorbed is by inhalation. It takes the body approximately 15 seconds to begin feeling the effects.

Ways to Break the Habit

I recommend personally breaking the habit by making that decision to give it up on your own. Even though, there are so many methods and products out there to try to help you wing yourself off the chemical. You can purchase chewing gums, dermal patches, pills or nasal sprays to help you quit.

I highly recommend changing the way you think about smoking in your mind. Your mind is a powerful weapon and a natural healer as well. Tell yourself that you will not touch another cigarette ever and take the next step and lay down that last butt. I know you can overcome the habit. Begin today and Change your life around without smoking. Don’t you deserve to live a healthier happier life? Yes, you do!
